Aside from the large corporate amp companies, there is a very large and flourishing group of amp circuits built by smaller companies these days. Some, like the Overdrive style or the "Wreck" style are very expensive, exclusive and way past the means of most players these days.
Other builders are just that way because they want to be small and unique. A cottage industry of sorts. And there are many builders out there doing their own thing. Unique twists and adaptations of classic circuits built with an eye to quality and craftsmanship. I sometimes think of myself this way but I also feel the pain of the pocketbook on many guys so I try to offer some of these boutique tones at a Frugal price.
